Bogota wasn’t my favorite place I have visited but the city managers that we had were some of the best. Cata and Luis completely made our experience in Bogota epic. I was fortunate to go on a trip with some of my good friends Wilhelmus and Anis to Cartagena and Santa Marta for a few weeks and it was one of the best side trips that I did. I loved Cartagena and Santa Marta and I even went back to Cartagena again when I was living Medellin. When I went to Cartagena I had no idea what to expect and had no idea how much I would love it.

Isla Tierrabomba

We left Cartagena and went to Blue Apple Beach House which was great. I had one of the craziest / scariest / weirdest night of my life there. Wilhelmus, Anis and I met the chef of Blue Apple Beach House and he told us that the entire island was celebrating because it was the last day of tourist season. He invited us to go with him and I had no idea what to expect. After picking up a few of his friends at his house we walked over to the city center and quickly realized when we walked into town that everyone knew that we were not from there. We were the only white people in the town and it was kinda crazy because it was so obvious we were not from there. The music they were playing there was the loudest music I have ever heard. These people didn’t have nice houses or cars but they had the largest/nicest stereo systems I have ever seen. We were hanging out and drinking Costeñita and Anis had to use the restroom and when he went over there was a guy and he pulled out a gun and shot it in the air. We were freaked out and left right after which felt really surreal because we couldn’t believe that just happened. We got back to the hotel. I asked the chef if that was safe and he said absolutely not. We were fortunate nothing bad happened to us.
